Golf in the Fall
The summer season is at an end and let’s hope the triple digit temperatures are behind us as well! Fall is welcome. September, October, and November are usually the best months to play golf in the Antelope Valley.
The temperatures and the wind are typically down, the kids are back at school, and there’s nothing like enjoying a casual round of golf at Rancho Sierra. So come out and join the fun.
Moonlight Golf
As many of you already know, Rancho Sierra had its annual glowball tournament in July. This was a great event.
For those of you that that missed it as well as those that would like to again experience playing golf in the moonlight with glowballs, glowsticks illuminating the tees, greens, hazards, and people, Rancho Sierra is proud to announce The Rancho Sierra Glowball Night, Saturday, September 29th from at 7:30 PM until 10 PM. The cost is $25.
This is not a tournament. No pressure, no handicap required. It’s a chance to enjoy golf in a very nice setting – the desert at night - with friends or family. It’s a unique experience and a lot of fun.
Sign up in the clubhouse by September 24th or call Rancho Sierra at (661) 946-1080 to get your name on the list.
Superintendent’s Corner
This month we announce the launch of Superintendent’s Corner, where we document the exploits of Steve Whitson, our hardworking Superintendent.
When last we left Steve, he and his trusty sidekick Bob Pfund were busy repairing driving range nets. Due to inclement weather and with the coordination of Rick Ross, Irrigation Specialist and tree falling expert (he is not merely a water boy), our tenacious trio was able to remove and cut up six dead or fallen trees. We’ll be planting replacement trees in the next couple of months and rest assured they will not be cottonwoods.
The alternate tee boxes for holes #4 and #5 are growing in nicely, and should be open for play sometime this fall. Having these available will be quite exciting since they give this part of the course a “hole” new look. (Ha Ha)
Also, Steve and crew are working on several new bridges over the canals. The goal is to remove the bridges that are in the center of the fairways because, over time, cart traffic destroys the grass in the fairway. The new bridges will be on the sides of the fairways, typically in or next to the rough, and so will not affect players’ shots (except for mine!).
Steve and crew are still hard at work on #6 green. Steve is hoping that removing a cottonwood tree beside this green will stop the roots from coming up under the green.
Around the Club House
We’re always getting new merchandise in the clubhouse, so when you’re here playing golf or hitting the driving range, take time out to browse our selection of golf merchandise and attire and have one of Shirley’s famous chili dogs. Our prices are second to none.
Fall Specials
We are extending our fall special of Monthly golf and range balls for a low as 83.00! Now is definitely time to take advantage of this. Or do some early Christmas shopping and buy a month of golf and range balls for the golfer on your Christmas list. He or she will love you for it!
